Perspectives of microbreweries, opportunities, and threats in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The aim of this study was to examine the prospects of microbreweries in the Czech Republic. At the beginning of 2021, there were 480 microbreweries, and the Czech Republic became the country with the largest number of microbreweries per capita. The authors of the study used a questionnaire survey among brewers and owners of microbreweries to examine the opportunities and threats facing microbreweries. A total of 248 microbreweries took part in the survey. The biggest threat for microbreweries is that industrial breweries have long-term contracts with restaurants and thus limit their opportunities to increase consumption. Another threat would be the abolition of tax benefits for microbreweries. The investigation showed that microbreweries do not perceive themselves as competitors, on the contrary, they help each other. Microbreweries perceive as an opportunity mainly intensive contact with customers. This is where the relationship with the customer is built and especially the loyalty, which can help microbreweries a lot when they will not be able to have their restaurants, guesthouses, hotels, or beer spas open, such as during the Covid 19 pandemic.
