Conceptualisation of teaching by teachers is considered to be an important variable that affects the style of educational practices and this, in turn, behaviour to children. The conventionalisation is a developing phenomenon that evolves throughout the career of the teacher, and its roots can be detected already in the pre-service period. This research project concentrated on revealing the perception of functions of the pre-school by students of pre-primary university education. The project aims at answering the following questions: (1) how students of the pre-primary university programme view the current functions of the pre-school, and (2) how these functions are fulfilled in pre-school teachers' practices. The sample consisted of 22 pre-service students of pre-primary education in the Czech Republic.
