Risks are an integral part of every environment. Due to their negative impact on human lives, health, property and other assets society has always tried to manage them. In order for the risks to be managed firstly they have to be identified. The actual identification of risks is carried out by means of various analytical methods. The analytical method of the risk mapping serves to create a list of risks for a particular area. Certain spatial restrictions of the given risks are indicated by the restrictive conditions of the area. Similarly, the actual risks are often defined by the limited perimeter of operation. Therefore, certain spatial characters of the risks can be identified. These characters can be processed using tools for dealing with spatial problems, namely the GIS. The GIS precisely identifies the areas where the given risks exist and thus it distinguishes the areas at risk from the safe ones. In addition, the GIS can be used for solving problems connected to the accumulation of risks in the same area and it also allows for the analysis of the correlations and joint effects of risks. At present, the GIS is being used more widely within various areas of human activities and that is also why it is applied in the field of risk mapping of territorial units.
