Low molecular weight polylactic acid microparticles used for control release of bioactive agent
Original language description
Biodegradable low molecular weight polylactic acid (PLA) was used for preparation of micro and submicro particles with incorporated bioactive compound and its release to water environment was investigated. Two series of particles varying in their size with various initial amounts of the herbicide metazachlor (MTZ) were prepared by the oil-in-water solvent evaporation technique using gelatin as biodegradable surfactant. The effect of particles size and percentage of MTZ encapsulated on its release kinetics was studied. Generally, it was found that, the release rate increased with increasing herbicide loading and was lower for larger particles.
