Simulation of Extrudate Swell during Polymer Foam Extrusion
Original language description
In this study, expansion of extruded polymer foam was theoretically investigated by using computer simulation and compared with experimental data obtained on production line under different mass flow rates and different shapes of die lip. The final element simulation was performed using ANSYS Academic Research Polyflow package utilizing non-isothermal processing conditions and nonNewtonian polymer/gas system behavior described by the Upper Convected Maxwell model including experimentally measured shear viscosity of polymer as well as shear viscosity of polymer/gas system. Extrusion experiments were carried out with polyethylene and isobutan on the industrial polymer foam production line including online rheometer.
