The article deals with the definition of competencies and key competencies of pupils and their development in an integrated didactic working place. In this article I focused on the practical teaching in the turning workshop in the secondary school. The competence development is based on the learning objectives of the subject Technology of turning in the practical teaching. The general learning objectives will gradually be further specified in a specific sub-objectives, they define the various competencies which the student should acquire and develop.
