Seminal plasma and sperm surface proteins and their role in reproduction
Original language description
Boar seminal plasma (SP) protein AQN 1 spermadhesin binds to the sperm plasma membrane that overlies the outer acrosomal membrane and has been implicated in sperm binding to the zona pellucida (ZP) as well as in sperm interactions with the epithelium ofthe oviductal sperm reservoir. Human SP was found to be very low in AQN 1 spermadhesin?like proteins. Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolases (UCHs) are responsible for the removal of polyubiquitin chains during protein priming for proteasomal proteolysis. Modulation of UCH activity could facilitate the management of polyspermy during IVF and provide insight into male infertility. Boar sperm UCHL3 was localized to the acrosomal surface and coimmunoprecipitated with boar AQN 1 spermadhesin.
