Modern informetric methods for the evaluation of scientific research

Anotace anglicky

The project's goal is to identify the weak points of current quantitative methods for the evaluation of scientific research and to propose new methods and indicators based on informetric approaches that will overcome the flaws detected. Based on a preliminary review of the current informetric literature, we can determine the following principal challenges for informetric researchers that may be addressed within this project: - life-time achievement vs. current performance - account of co-authorship in both publications and citations - differences between scientific fields - different behaviour of researchers at different stages of their career - honorary co-authorship or ?ghost? co-authorship - self-citations and citation cliques - ?the rich get richer? effect and time dependency of citations - impact factor flaws and other journal quality metrics - relationship between significance and text attributes of publications A successful solution of any of the above issues would significantly advance the state of the art in the field of informetrics and would substantially contribute to the creation of a more objective, more robust, and a fairer system of scientific research output evaluation. The challenges cannot be described in more detail here due to alack of space, but we are aware that trying to tackle all of them at once would be too ambitious. Therefore, we suppose that only some of the issues will be addressed within the project based on the outcomes of a most detailed analysis conducted in the first months of the project?s lifetime. Expected publication results of the project include 4 ? 5 research papers, one of which at least should be a high-impact journal article published in Journal of Informetrics, Scientometrics, Information Processing &Management or similar journals.

Zhodnocení výsledků projektu

Projekt je realizován v rámci Aktivity MOBILITY, jejímž hlavním cílem je navázání a prohlubování kontaktů se zahraničními výzkumnými institucemi. Neprobíhá tedy kontrola dílčích výstupů projektu prostřednictvím hodnotící komise, avšak je kontrolována správnost čerpání přidělených financí a přiměřenost jejich využití.
