Advanced Joining of 3D Printed Superalloys and Conventional Materials by Friction Welding

  • Anotace anglicky

The main aim of the project is to establish cooperation between Czech and German research institutions in advanced technologies for joining heterogeneous materials. Through this approach, the project seeks to enhance Europe's competitiveness in innovative and additive manufacturing. The project aligns with the objectives of the announced call, as it fosters cross-border partnerships addressing complex challenges. The next objective of the project is to systematically investigate and quantify the influence of key friction welding process parameters on the resulting mechanical properties and microstructure of innovative hybrid welded joints. These joints will be formed by combining additively manufactured Inconel, titanium alloys and conventional structural steels. Another key objective is to experimentally demonstrate and evaluate the technological suitability of semi-finished products prepared by additive manufacturing methods for subsequent joining by FW technology, focusing on achievable weld joint quality, reproducibility, and identification of promising material combinations. From a scientific perspective, the project aims to make a significant contribution to a deeper understanding of the synergistic effect of two advanced technologies: additive manufacturing and friction welding. The project will focus on currently insufficiently understood issues relating to microstructural transformations in the joint area, characterisation of heat-affected zone properties, and ensuring stability of the welding process for these material combinations. The project results will contribute to the development of flexible and resource-efficient manufacturing methods and support the transfer of innovative technologies. The investigation of energy-efficient friction welding combined with material-saving additive manufacturing has the potential to contribute to sustainable production and the development of lightweight, complex components for key sectors such as aerospace or energy.
