Industrial Topography - new use of industrial heritage in the Czech Republic as a part of national and cultural identity.

Anotace anglicky

The industrial era left in its wake an extraordinarily valuable asset, industrial heritage, capitalising on which is the aim of this project. The findings obtained by means of a territorial analysis and assessment of industrial heritage from the perspective of its cultural, economic, and social potential will be presented in the form of specialised maps, publications, exhibitions and applied in the education process. It will be concentrated on the possibilities for integrating industrial heritage into the development activities of society, the architecture of the conversion of industrial objects, and the revitalisation of unused industrial lands. The project implements interdisciplinary research ? mapping industrial heritage ? (digitizing and archivingdocuments in an already existing, innovated database), and the emphasis is on urbanistic and architectonic values and the regional specifics of the industrial landscape (working with regional museums, archives, and with similarly oriented institutions in Europe). The outcome will be an up-to-date map ? Industrial Topography of the Czech Republic and expert studies. Findings could be used by organs of state administration and local authorities, as well as private subjects, and within the wider public the results are aimed at applications in education and in new forms of leisure-time activity (educational tourism).The educational methodology ties in with already existing study programmes at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University.A travelling exhibition on the conversion of industrial heritage objects summarises the principles of the strategies formulated, presents opportunities for the adapted new use of industrial heritage, and is aimed at positively motivating users. The current relevance of this theme is augmented by the effects of the restructuring of industry, but also by the transformation of value criteria, technical advances, and the need to rehabilitate the living environment.
