Written treasure of abolished monasteries in Bohemia

Anotace anglicky

The monasteries belonged to the cultural centers of our state since the early Middle Ages and stood at the birth of our written tradition. The abolition of many of these houses during the Josephine reforms at the end of the 18th century meant the seizure and partial destruction of their preserved written wealth, which form an important part of the national, historical and cultural heritage. Books and archival materials were transferred from the abolished monasteries in Bohemia to the newly established Public and University Library (today's National Library of the Czech Republic) in Klementinum. A substantial part of the archival material was later transferred to the Home, Court and State Archives in Vienna and is now stored in the National Archives. The aim of the joint project of the National Library and the National Archives is to create a tool for studying monastic history in the Czech lands by virtual merging of written collections and collections and to present the preserved source wealth of monastic archives and library collections using computer technologies and exhibitions. In accordance with the main thematic priority 1.1: National and cultural identity in archaeological, historical and socio-cultural continuity or discontinuity and their reflection on the historical territory of the Czech state, the main outputs of the project will be a specialized public database and an interactive specialized map that will serve as a platform for history research monasteries and will present the written and cultural richness of these institutions. The development of the written wealth of Czech monasteries will be demonstrated on the example of selected religious houses and orders, while the issue of women's convents will be taken into account. The presentation of the research results will also take place in the exhibition platform, where exhibitions will be prepared on the topic of women's abolished monasteries and on the topic of the act of abolition of monasteries.
