The Dendrological Garden as a successor of horticultural and landscape tradition in Průhonice

Anotace anglicky

The aim of the project will be to identify the cultural values of the landscape and preserve the legacy of Czech garden art and landscape architecture, including the specification of the regime of care for historic gardens and important objects of landscape architecture. The model object will be the Dendrological Garden (DZ) of the Silva Tarouca Research Institute for Landscape and Horticulture (VÚKOZ) in Průhonice, which is a valuable work of landscape architecture and at the same time one of the most important object with plant collections with a long tradition. Materials will be created for supplementing and expanding its existing documentation and at the same time making its cultural and professional significance accessible and used to the public. The research will focus on the history of DZ in the context of the activities of the Czechoslovak Dendrological Society, the development of the internal division and organization of DZ, the development of assortment, the role of horticultural research personalities in its building and their legacy. The landscape values of DZ, its branch gardening traditions and the importance of the building in an agricultural landscape with a high share of built-up area will be presented in the form of processing historical development supplemented by analytical map outputs at different levels. Another goal is to create tools to preserve the traditional assortment of plants in the form of processing their electronic database. It will reflect changes in the composition of plants from the establishment of the garden to the present, in addition to woody plants in relation to their occurrence in Czechia, the year of introduction to Czechia and the place of first cultivation in this country. These data will also document the position of individual taxa in the development of landscape architecture. The results of the research will be further presented by map outputs, an exhibition connected with a conference in the DZ and two monographs.
