Migration and Us: Mobility, Refugees, and Borders from the Perspective of the Humanities

Anotace anglicky

The project aims to enhance the quality, capacity, and impact of research on migration and refugee studies within the humanities in the Czech Republic, while promoting the integration and relevance of this research in an international context. It seeks to leverage and maximize interdisciplinary synergies among researchers and methodologies from various disciplines, including literary and cultural studies, ethnology and anthropology, Oriental studies, and history. The project will employ innovative digital methodologies, striving to create an interdisciplinary platform that connects and expands research capabilities on various forms of mobility. Individual research will develop new scholarly approaches to migration and refugee studies. It will examine the phenomenon of exile (and conceptions of political and national refugeeness), the relationship between language and "race" in the lived experiences of contemporary migrants, state and transnational entities' influence campaigns affecting transnational migration, the history of labor migration, and the significance of borders and bordering practices. These studies will focus on the period from the 20th century to the present day, geographically integrating research on migration from the Czech lands into global contexts. The intension is also to enhance the qualifications and expertise of participating scholars through project-based education, interdisciplinary enrichment, and international mobility. The aim is for this growth in research capacity to have a lasting impact on migration research in the Czech Republic and its international networks. The project also seeks to create conditions for improved application of this research by communicating findings to the public through lectures, blogs, and media outputs; providing resources for policymakers; integrating research results into educational activities, particularly targeting multipliers; and disseminating findings within archival and museum contexts.
