Anotace anglicky
This project looks at the Czech intelligentsia’s contribution to the critique of the development of European culture in the 20th century and the critique of totalitarianism, and examines this phenomenon on the basis of the works of Rio Preisner, a Czech philosopher, linguist and poet, who also wrote an anti-totalitarian trilogy and studies on the development of modern European thought. The project has a biographical dimension which is incorporated into the historical context, emphasizing the contribution of Czech intellectuals towards a “critique of modernity”. The project stems from the need in the Czech Republic for a history of ideas. The project aims to explain the mindsets of particular intellectuals as well as the reasons for their active opposition and criticism; their political-cultural influences including a focus on life in exile; their intellectual points of departure, strategies and stereotypes; their social networks and mutual interaction; and finally to define the forms and options for the development of free thought in critical periods of history.
