History of Czech Art History in the second Half of the 20th Century: part 1 (1945-1970)

Anotace anglicky

Research of the history of academic disciplines forms a standard part of their self-reflective strategies, but in the Czech Republic the interest has been only marginal. The project develops the published texts of the author on the topic and will be concluded by a book dealing with the functions, strategies and roles of the Czech art history during the period between the end of the Second World War and defeat of the Prague Spring. The project will consist of close reading of published texts, archival research and interviews with witnesses, which will be compared to developments in other countries of the former Soviet Bloc. The interpretation will be oriented at knowledge of institutional basis, life strategies of prominent individuals, identification of principal topics and dominating methodologies in Czech art history. The final interpretation will realize the first part of a long-term project that would provide an insight into a tradition, which forms the current field of Czech art history.
