Uncertain Mandates. Legitimization of Elections in the Bohemian Lands and Czechoslovakia 1848–1939

Anotace anglicky

This project focuses on research into electoral frauds and on the procedures legitimizing the acquisition of parliamentary mandates in the Czech lands and Czechoslovakia. Chronologically it is defined by the 1848-1939 period. Thematically it is divided into two key segments: the first focusing on a characterization and typology of electoral frauds that took place during parliamentary elections and any changes in the perception of the term electoral fraud in its continuous ninety-year development. The second part of the research focuses on clarifying the role of the institutions that held the right to legitimize (confirm or annul) the acquisition of a parliamentary mandate. An examination will be made of the way in which these institutions were constituted, the content of their agendas and the potential influence on political developments in the country at that time. The main output of the project will be a comprehensively planned monograph. Individual results will be published in a collective monograph and in journals both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
