The Development of Poetics of Milan Kundera from Poetical Beginnings to The Festival of Insignificance

In 2013, Milan Kundera crowned his extensive and eventful creative literary work with a novel The Festival of Insignificance (2013 in Italy, 2014 in France). No monograph reflecting this novel has been published so far. Authors of poetologically oriented interpretations neglect the early stage of Kundera’s work: poetry and early essays. Yet we can see that the author creates conceptual metaphors that are to be found in all his later works. In an essay from 1955 O sporech dědických (On Heirs’ Disputes) we can find a complete sketch of his poetic (including novels). This interpretative gap in relation to the early work of the author and his last novel will be filled by a monograph where I will interpret the whole of Kundera’s work including the early stage and the last novel. I will focus on the separate stages, on foundations of poetics, its transformation and innovative climax in the last novel The Festival of Insignificance.
