Qualitative Research on the Semantics of Aesthetic Judgements
Anotace anglicky
The aim of the project is to describe and analyse the semantics of aesthetic judgements. It starts from the inevitability of the collaboration of philosophical and sociological aesthetics in empirical research on aesthetic evaluation but also in dealing with questions of aesthetic axiology. The project comprises two-phase qualitative research on aesthetic judgement and reasoning in relation to selected artistic and non-artistic cultural forms (movies, selected consumer goods) based on Werner Strube’s pragmalinguistic typology of aesthetic judgements. The research outcomes will be used for (a) the verification and revision of the original theory of aesthetic value, (b) the comprehensive and empirically informed description and analysis of various aesthetic language games and their structural similiarities and differences, and (c) the analysis of different ways that normativity is constituted in aesthetic judgement and the dependence of aesthetic evaluation and reasoning on the classification of the assesssed object, its symbolic value, and cultural tradition.
