On the Way to the Peak of History? The formation of Czechoslovakia in the changing historiography of 1918-1992/1993

Anotace anglicky

The project studies the changes of the image of the 1918 formation of the Czechoslovak Republic (CSR) in the context of the development of the Czechoslovak historiography between 1918 and 1992/1993. The authors analyse the academic historiographic production focusing on the formation of the CSR from the point of view of the changing interpretation patterns and constructed narratives. The project also examines why the formation of the CSR became a key point in the master narrative of the national history and how this specific historic event turned into a phenomenon filtering through from the historiographic texts to the media and applied to the politics of memory. Additionally, the research focuses on biographies and professional profiles of the historians dealing with these issues and the institutions sponsoring the research of the formation of the CSR. It includes key interactions of Czechoslovak, German and Austrian historiography for individual periods and compares their chosen aspects with their Yugoslavian and Polish counterparts.
