Research of fortification of Pohansko near Břeclav has been oriented on the knowledge of the construction, the date of its origin and extinction. Research was focused on the second-class areas, strategically oriented to the safe inner zone of the Great Moravia. Fortification lines exposed to expected enemy attacks were only probed. Research on the main roads and the associated gateways has not been realized. Attention was not paid at all to the situation in front of the wall, in connection with the supposed moat, which was probably replaced with the river, or its active and passive riverarms. Their sediments make it possible to investigate the environmental record and there is still the possibility of capturing sufficient quantities of timber structures. If we focus on these previously unresolved issues, it will be possible to look for answers to questions related to the beginnings and end of fortification, to supplement the mosaic of the development of the natural environment and to shed light on the development of this center on the lower Dyje River.
