Research and Intepretation of the Nag-Hammadi Texts – Codices I and XII
Anotace anglicky
Paying special attention to the treatises 1-4 of the first codex of the Coptic Nag Hammadi manuscripts the research will focus on the Gnostic interpretation of the Bible and on the different responding of the individual Nag Hamadi tracts to some important early Christian issues (e.g. the notion of resurrection, the problem of martyrdom). The Gnostic concepts of Jesus of these texts and the way how these traditions developed his teaching and his image, esp. the interpretation of his suffering, will be studied as well. The specific Gnostic metaphoric "language" will also be analysed. In the second line, the research will focus on the work of ancient translators of Gnostic and Biblical texts from Greek into Coptic (i.e. the use of Greek loanwords, the manner of Biblical citations), on scribal behaviour (palaeography, original corrections) and on the form of the codex itself (codicological analysis). The third line consists of editorial work on the still unpublished Coptic manuscripts.
