Circulation of knowledge as a basis for multiculturalism and its role in a transformation of the Czech art Industry in 1850s–1920s

Anotace anglicky

The revival of crafts after 1850 is considered to be an era of development of mutual influence and intensive transfer of knowledge between the East and the West. Multiculturalism became a distinct feature in all branches of art, including crafts.An important impulse in this process was sections of non-European cultures exhibited at world expositions, esp. Indian, Chinese and Japanese arts and crafts, which also inspired the formal appearance of Czech glass and ceramics and affected the prosperity of these industries.Art Nouveau and Art Deco then confirmed the attractiveness and inspirational value of non-European art.The project envisages research of non-European influences on Czech production in the full range of content and formal displays and will focus on inspirational ties, authentic and mediated sources, and evaluate the contribution of established sources of inspiration in the Czech and European context including latent colonial approaches.The result will be a monograph, three essays in peer-reviewed journals and an open-access app. introducing these tendencies to the public.
