Anotace anglicky

This project aims to contribute to the research on the religiosity of late medieval society, an important part of which was the use of the instrument of indulgences. It focuses on the so-called indulgence lists, which are the vehicles of information about indulgences for visiting pilgrimage sites in the Holy Land in the 14th-16th centuries. These lists testify not only to the reality of the Jerusalem pilgrimage, but also, in their secondary use, to the image of Jerusalem, liturgical practice, and life in monastic communities. The research team will register and compare the lists in the area of Central Europe and, taking into account their provenance, codicological context, and reading use, evaluate the significance of these texts for late medieval piety. The result will be a monograph summarising the facts about the occurrence and significance of indulgence lists in Central Europe and several partial studies dealing with the variation in the use of these texts in different settings.
