Urbanized landscape as a human contribution to the diversity of nature: integrating urban ecology and urban biology
Anotace anglicky
This project addresses the diversity of plant communities in urban environments and their impact on the lives of residents. (i) Using the detailed floristic survey of the city of Brno, we will determine the local centres of plant diversity and the factors leading to their occurrence; and (ii) using data from European cities in different climatic regions, we will test whether our findings are valid on a continental scale. (iii) Using statistical models with a wide range of ecological factors, we will assess how changes in urban landscape structure will affect plant diversity. (iv) We will then determine Nature's contribution to people (NCP) of these urban centres of biodiversity and how these NCPs change along the biotic and socioeconomic gradient within the city. (v) We will study how urban biodiversity hotspots and their NCPs are reflected in the landscape and urban development concept and how the public perceives them. The project results will allow urban biodiversity hotspots to be considered as a basis for urban landscape planning.
