Anotace anglicky

The stability of environmental conditions is considered one of the main factors determining the distribution of diversity on Earth. However, it is difficult to remove the simultaneous influence of other factors such as temperature which impacts metabolic and mutation rate. A clean test of the hypothesis therefore requires control of climate among areas with different stability during the glacial-interglacial cycle. Based on a preliminary analysis from land snails, between current and LGM conditions the three regions of boreal-oceanic climate differ in their stability, ranging from highly (north Pacific) to moderately stable (Europe) to unstable (eastern North America). Preliminary analyses of their land snail genetic and species diversity allow us to hypothesize that this system does provide unique perspectives into biodiversity drivers, with stable zones having higher genetic diversity and higher community richness and species turnover.
