Graphomotor skills: Between Maturity and Readiness

Anotace anglicky

Graphomotor skills (GMs) are essential for mastering reading, writing, and arithmetic in primary school. Their development starts in kindergarten and is influenced by internal factors (e.g., gender) and external factors (e.g., family, kindergarten). Insufficient GMs can lead to school deferrals, with the Czech Republic ranking among the countries with the highest deferral rates in the EU and OECD. The field of graphonomics and digitization brings us the possibility of accurately measuring GMs, but there is a lack of studies examining the interaction of different factors with the use of digitizing tablets in preschool children. To fill this knowledge gap, in our project, we will connect these fields with psychology, education, and signal processing, which has the potential to significantly advance our understanding of GMs and the influences on their development. The results of the project may lead to the refinement of diagnostic criteria in the future.
