The emperor’s city between diplomacy and war. The communication between Sigismund of Luxembourg and the imperial city of Nuremberg.

Anotace anglicky

The aim of the project is to analyse the communication between Sigismund of Luxembourg and the imperial city of Nuremberg in order to determine the role of this prominent imperial city in the politics of Sigismund of Luxembourg. It will also show how Nuremberg strengthened its economic position and elevated its importance at the imperial court during the Hussite Wars thanks to the privileges granted. The main output of the project will be a monograph in German on the communication between Sigismund of Luxembourg and the city of Nuremberg and the role of the Nuremberg’s city council in negotiations with the king. It will be accompanied by two case studies presenting a diplomatic analysis of the privileges granted to Nuremberg and possibilities of comparing diplomatic material using digital humanities, conducted with the aid of a combination of traditional approaches and digital diplomatics. The project will make a significant contribution to the fields of the communication and diplomatics of Roman kings and emperors in general.
