Anotace anglicky
In the last two decades of his life, Jakub Deml barely published but he continued to write. His correspondence from the 1940s and 1950s, until recently inaccessible, and newly discovered manuscripts of his works show that this period merits systematic research, editorial and literary-historical attention. Letter-writing became the main genre of Deml’s poetic expression as an alternative to publication, a form of historical testimony, a safe storage of authorized texts and a key to interpreting his late work. Deml built a new network of addressees, some of whom have retained not just his writings but also memories of the poet. The project is conceived as collaborative research into institutional and private sources combined with oral history. The main outcomes shall be two book editions of the crucial correspondence with Jan Zahradníček, and the Straňáks furnished with a critical apparatus and commentary; and five comprehensive studies on the poetics and communication strategies of the poet’s late manuscripts in the context of post-war literature in Central and Eastern Europe.
