Corpus Hippocraticum and its importance for the contemporary sciences of man

Anotace anglicky

The proposed project is based on the "Corpus Hippocraticum". The research has two main objectives: the first is the preparation of a book containing new translations and commentaries of the most important writings of the Corpus as well as a detailed introduction and special studies dealing with the questions of the Corpus. The second objective will be to introduce a dialogue inspired by the Corpus between classicists, physicians, philosophers, biologists, psychologists, anthropologists and historians ofscience. The research will examine the following topics: the way in which the Greeks were able to establish the foundations of science, in particular the science of man, as well as the special role of medicine in this process; the relationship and multiple connections between science and philosophy in ancient Greece; the mind-body relation; defining the nature of man.
