Anotace anglicky

The aim of the proposed project is to elaborate and publish a critical commented edition and Czech translation of recently rediscovered and scholarly untouched Latin manuscript of Annotationes in Aegyptum by Fr Christian Schneider (1742-1824), a Czech Franciscan who worked in Egypt as a missionary. The source of editorial work is an autograph deposited in the Department of Historical Archives of the Research Library of South Bohemia. The comprehensive unique work in its 276 pages deals with 1) geographyand topography of Egypt, ancient monuments, 2) economy, private life, and religions of modern times, 3) country's history in the last one hundred and fifty years, esp. the invasion of Napoleon which he witnessed. The main outcome will be a critical edition of Latin text with linguistic and subject commentaries, parallely accompanied with a Czech translation and supplemented with list of sources and literature, indices, illustrations, and introductory study on the author and his missionary work. The Annotationes shall be classified into other tracts on Egypt at the very end of the 18th century before the egyptology was born.
