Offertoriale Arnesti (Choral Offertories with Verses from Bohemian Sources)

The goal of this project is to publish the critical edition of the mass offertories known from the manuscripts saved in the Czech libraries - with the gradual of Arnestus of Pardubice (Offertoriale Arnesti, after 1350, Prague Castle Archive, P VII) as the main source, because it contains the offertories with verses for all masses incorporated in it (being very rare phenomena even in the European comparison). The closest to it (preserved in the same collection) is the so-called St. Vitus' Tropary (Cim 4), whose oldest part, recorded in 1180-1200, contains also the entries of offertory verses. Two Bohemian manuscripts from the 12th century with neumatic offertory records serve as older evidence of this repertoire for intended edition: missal collection (Prague, National Museum Library, XIV D 12) and a gradual (Brno, Moravian Land Library, R 418). The output of the project - a critical parallel edition of the Bohemian mass offertories with introductory study and accompanying commentary in Czech and English, critical apparatus and indices - will make accessible this unique repertory not only for musicologists, but also for medievalists involved in the history of literature, liturgy and culture in the Bohemian Lands and last but not least for musicians, who are interested in an interpretation of the plainchant.
