Anotace anglicky

The life and work of Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) has been the focus of interest on the part of many musicologists over a long period of time, but so far nobody has treated in depth the subject of his relation to the Prague Conservatory. I should like to fill this gap with a study, which would be appropriate in connection with celebrations of the conservatory's 200th anniversary, because the period of Dvořák's work there was an important stage in the history of this oldest conservatory in central Europe.His very first pupils there (since 1891) became important figures in Czech music (Suk, Nedbal, Novák). Over the course of the years 1891 to 1904 (with a pause in 1892-95 when Dvořák was in the USA), about 60 pupils studied composition with him. My studywould provide an overview of these students, describe his methods, give information on compositions written under his supervision, and publish some little-known documents including some that have never appeared in print, from the archives of the Conservatory, the Dvořák Society, and the Moravian Museum as well as from private sources.
