Anotace anglicky

Czechoslovak travelling scholars were closely connected with the political and economical interests of the Czechoslovak Republic in the Oriental states. Their activities fit into a complex picture of relations between two geopolitical areas that were formerly large empires with many mutual contacts ? the Hapsburg and the Ottoman states. From 1920s, these vast regions disintegrated into a number of ?nation? states and had to rebuild their relations. In addition, Oriental studies are developing, from 19thcentury onwards, in close connection to the ?othering discourse? and other discourses of knowledge and power, and are therefore of utmost importance. This project aims at a complex view of activities of the travelling scholars, and must analyse a largeamount of printed and archival sources concerning not only the voyages but also political and economic relations. The most important funds are National museum archives, Archives of Náprstek museum, Literary archives of the Památník národního písemnictvíand for political and social relations, there are useful collections in the Archive of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Archive. The team would like to prepare commented edition of selected scholar travellers? texts in one volume, and a monograph with analytical and synthetical studies as a second volume.

Přínos projektu je nesporný, výsledky jsou adekvátní, ovšem publikace Českoslovenští vědci v Orientu II. nebyla patrně dodána ani v rukopise, pouze nakladatelská smlouva.
