Leisure Time in the Czech Lands 1957-1967

Anotace anglicky

The project is a sequel to a project "Průvodce kulturním děním a životním stylem v českých zemích 1948-67" supported by GA ČR and it analyses in depth one of its research areas. It is of a particular importance as the issue of leisure has been insufficiently studied and most of its aspects were not yet systematically analysed. The project will primarily analyse the social context of the gradual increase in leisure and the effects of the changes in spending leisure on functioning of the Czech society inthe second half of the 1950s and 1960s. The proposed research has the potential to inform us about the changes of the society, particularly about the changes in its mentality and its new relation to consumerism. At the same time the project aspires to analyse the efficiency of the efforts of the communist leadership to influence the life of its citizens in the private sphere, in particular in the area of leisure activities. Through method of sonde the project will investigate to what extent the officialpropaganda had an impact on the daily life style of the citizens, but also to what extent the development in the Czech society copied the trends of the west European societies. The output of the project will be presented in the form of monograph that will analyse essential trends in leisure and through the method of sonde it will study typical examples of leisure activities in the period of 1957-1967.
