Biography and Prosopography of the Saxon Nation at the Prague University of Law 1372-1419

Anotace anglicky

Building on the prosopographical research entailed in the applicant's doctoral thesis, the project aims at compiling a biographic compendium of all the 1245 matriculated members of the Saxon university nation at the medieval Prague Law University (1372-1419). His research has been grounded in the preserved university register and other university sources, as well as in biographical literature and diplomatic editions from Central and Northern Germany, the Baltic countries, Denmark and the Scandinavian. The project would render an increase in the knowledge of the origins of the scholars, their studies and careers as well as of the Saxon university nation in general. It would also stress the universal character of the Prague Law University and its contribution to the formation especially of the ecclesiastical elites in the contemporary Central and Northern Europe. The outcomes of this project would include a study of the Saxon university nation ready for publishing, an on-line database and presentationsof the project in the Czech Republic and abroad.
