Policies of the Jewish Identity in the Czech Lands (1860-1938)

Anotace anglicky

The project is based on a research of ways in which policies of the Jewish identity emerged and changed in the period between the forming of modern political parties and the end of the Czechoslovak First Republic (1860-1938). It will focus on the political publics which created certain conceptual forms and frameworks of policies aimed at the Czech Jewish population, and on their comparison. The Czech-Jewish, Zionist, and Socialist/Communist movements and the ways they treated the so called Jewish question will be the key subject matters. Attention will be also paid to some other subjects (primarily some Czech and German nationalist parties) that entered the political space and had an important influence on the creating of policies of the Jewish identity. Involvement of the discourse analysis and of the methodological perspectives of the theory of recognition into the research of Jewish collective identities is the objective of the project as well as a comparison of the results obtained by this research with the results of a similar one carried out abroad during past years.
