Anotace anglicky

This project's essence lies in exploring the microcosm of everyday medicine and the dynamics of the medical market in an early modern town, using the example of Olomouc. This research is conducted through an analysis of written sources of urban provenance (probate inventories) and material sources (museum collection items). The project aims to examine the role of objects associated with medicine in the daily lives of burghers. It applies a qualitative analysis of sources based on the methodology of material culture studies, focusing on the meaning, function, and symbolism of these objects. It investigates how the artefacts shaped the perception of health, the body, and medical practice in the urban environment of the 16th and 17th centuries. The project seeks to initiate a domestic methodological discussion on the possibilities of researching everyday medical practices, engage in ongoing international debates, incorporate the underrepresented region of East-Central Europe into these discussions, and produce the first monograph on this topic with a specific focus on the Czech lands.
