Ancient Scriptural Records of the History of Our

Anotace anglicky

The aim of this project is to find out and compile all ancient Greek and Latin written records of historical, geographical and ethnographic nature of relevance to the history of our region including the territory of Slovakia. Owing to the existing editions of Magnae Moraviae Fontes Historici, the intended publication should cover the period from the very beginnings up to the 9th century AD. Since the text of the records is usually brief and fragmentary, it will be necessary to append footnotes to the translation which will briefly elucidate some less transparent places in the text, point out the mutual correspondences between the records and also present their further interpretations. An introduction adequate to the importance of each source will acquaint the reader with the author of the record as well as with the time of the text's origin and its connections with other sources. A lot of attention will be paid to the form of the translation not only from the philological perspective.
