Bee-ing Resilient in Changing Climate: Safeguarding Pollinators and Crop Yields

Anotace anglicky

1. Main Objective: Assessing the Impact of Environmental Stressors on Honey Bee-Crop Interaction Within this main objective, we will focus on quantifying the influence of environmental stressors, such as industrial emissions, climate change, and other factors, on the interaction between honey bees and crops. This will be done using unique modeling tools and an open-circuit wind tunnel. This objective will be addressed in coordination with Working Group 4 of the COST Action BeSafeBeeHoney and will contribute to solving the following themes set as goals within the entire BeSafeBeeHoney Action across all working groups: A. Climate Change: Is there a relevant threat? B. Contribution to the design and update of European policies to support the prevention, reduction, and control of biotic and abiotic stressors for honey bees. The fulfillment of the main objective will be ensured by the progressive completion of the following partial objectives: 1. Development of a complex system for the given experiments 2. Calibration of the developed apparatus The apparatus will be calibrated using reference instruments. 3. Pilot experiments to optimize the developed complex system (ongoing discussions with experts within events organized by the BeSafeBeeHoney community). 4. Systematic experiments with the developed complex system under a controlled environment 5. Dissemination of results and deepening cooperation with the international community The goal is to deepen cooperation through joint activities within the COST Action and ongoing discussions with experts from other fields on the possibility of expanding research. As part of dissemination, we want to contribute to the design and update of European policies for saving honey bees through the BeSafeBeeHoney group. 6. Training of young researchers At least one student from a Czech university will also be involved in the project, thereby gaining an introduction to the topic of managing international projects.
