Screening for biomarkers characterizing patients with difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis in the Czech population
Anotace anglicky
Despite modern therapeutic approaches, many patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) do not reach the treatment target - clinical remission or low disease activity even after several cycles of treatment. The disease then becomes Difficult-To-Treat (D2T), which is a challenging condition for rheumatologists who have to make a great effort to design an effective therapy. On top of drug inefficacy, there are other reasons for not achieving desirable treatment responses, e.g., drug intolerance and adverse reaction, non-compliance or presence of comorbidities. The estimated prevalence of D2T among RA patients ranges from 5% to 20% and represents a high socio-economic burden in the long term. Therefore, the first aim will be a retrospective characterization of D2T RA patients in the large cohort of the Czech population with RA from the national registry ATTRA and the follow-up analysis assessing the role of putative risk factors. Based on this characterization, we will classify patients and profile their proteome and miRNome in order to identify systemic biomarkers predicting the development of D2T RA. In this context, our project could improve the characteristics of D2T RA patients, be beneficial for patients’ clinical outcomes and reduce the cost of the treatment.
