3 stránkový článek ve sborníku - Book of abstracts ANZFSS 25th lnternational Symposium on the Forensic Sciences Kotrly M, Turkova I.:DETERMINATION OF ORIGIN OF MINERAL PHASES IN FORENSIC PRACTICE. ANZFSS 25th lnternational Symposium on the Forensic Sciences, p. 124-126, Brisbane, 2022 Abstract of the article: The need to determine genuineness/origin of mineral material occurs quite often in the forensic practice. It concerns abundant fakes that are in the market and also incorrectly declared gemological objects and also the whole range of other materials, wide spectrum of building materials which are often substituted with cheap substitutes, soil phases, etc. It is stated that 30 - 50% of materials in the world markets are fakes or incorrectly declared materials. In forensic gemology, not only easily identifiable cubic zirconia (ZrO2), moissanite (SiC) or synthetic opals are encountered. For central Europe, frauds concerning the so called Czech Garnet are rather common. “The Czech Garnet” (chrome pyrope) is a protected regional designation of origin. Only chrome pyropes from a few locations in the Czech Republic can be marked as Czech Garnet. Czech Garnet is a favourite tourism commodity. Currently, large quantities of garnets from other world deposits and jewellery with these garnets have been imported and marked „Czech Garnet”. Complex analytic methods allow to find so called fingerprint of every material which proves its origin. Usually the methods applied are a combination of optical, spectral and microanalytical methods.
