Fractography of an interlaminar shear fracture in a carbon fibre-reinforced epoxy composite enhanced with carbon nanotubes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Fibre-reinforced polymer composites are successfully used in the aerospace industry. The presented paper focuses on a fractographic interpretatin of an interlaminar shear structural fracture in a composite with an epoxy matrix enhanced by carbon nanotubes. A double-notch shear loading test was performed to assess the inflence of the multiwalled carbon nanotubes on the essentil mechanical property of the laminated composite - interlaminar shear strength. The shear stress state in the specimens during loading and the test boundary conditins were verifid through the fiite element method. Failure mechanisms were determined by means of light and scanning electron microscopy. Fractographic features typical for interlaminar shear loading were observed. Resinaggregates were also observed in the nano-enhanced specimens. The aggregates indicate an insuffient distributin of nanotubes in the resin which might cause the non-signifiant change in the strength obtained in the experiment.
