EMISSIONS OF FLUORINATED GREENHOUSE GASES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC FOR 1990–2015 PERIOD
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) are anthropogenic gases, which are used as substitutes for ozone depleting substances. F-gases do not damage ozone layer but they contribute to the global warming. F-gases have a high global warming potential (GWP) and thus the use of F-gases should be controlled and regulated. The main legislative measure in European Union (EU), which regulates the use of F-gases, is Regulation 517/2014. The main goal of Regulation 517/2014 is to cut emissions of F-gases by 2/3 compared with 2014 levels. As a Party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and as a member of EU, the Czech Republic is required to prepare and regularly update national greenhouse gas inventories, which include also emission estimates of F-gases. Emissions from sectors are estimated according to the methodology (IPCC 2006 Guidelines) prepared by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Total net emissions of the Czech Republic were 120 486.14 kt CO2 eq. in 2015 and the share of F-gases on total net emissions was 2.95%. Emissions are increasing yearly since 1990, when emissions of SF6 used in electronic equipment started to be estimated. The highest share on total net emissions of F-gases has their use in refrigeration and air conditioning systems, in which are mainly used blends containing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Emissions of F-gases were 42 times higher in 2015 compared to 1990. Similar increase will be limited by regulation measures and thus the consumption of F-gas will be gradually decreasing and F-gases will be substituted by other chemicals.
