Calibration and Monitoring of the Czech Weather Radar Network - Status Update 2019
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
presentation at 2nd Weather Radar Calibration & Monitoring workshop, Offenbach, Germany, 30.10.-1.11. 2019. DOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.35334.32328 abstract: The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) operates the Czech weather radar network (CZRAD) consisting of two modern dual polarization Doppler weather radars Vaisala WRM-200 installed in 2015. The CZRAD data are highly demanded and regarded for severe weather and precipitation monitoring, nowcasting and warning by national civil and military weather services, operational hydrology, air traffic control and many other users including general public. A dual polarization capability of current radars enabled quality improvement of standard horizontal radar reflectivity and velocity data (better filtering of non-meteorological data and attenuation correction) and also enabled measurements of new radar quantities that can be used e.g. for radar echo classification. To ensure high quality of new polarimetric radar data extended effort has to be focused on radar systems calibration and monitoring. Additional extended effort has to be also spent on monitoring of non-meteorological echoes and disturbances in radar data and their removal. The contribution will give an overview of current monitoring and calibration procedures implemented in the CZRAD network. Main focus will be put on latest progress in this area.
