METHODOLOGY OF PROJECTIONS FROM THE ENERGY SECTOR
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Greenhouse gases form a part of the Earth‘s atmosphere and contribute to the so-called greenhouse effect. They are produced not only by natural processes, but also by human activities. Projections of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are essential information for the planning of national emission reduction policies. In complex and interconnected systems, as it happens in the Energy sector, it is necessary to improve emission prediction capacities. This methodology was developed as part of the TA ČR research project Théta No. TK02010056-V9. For most economies, energy systems are largely driven by the combustion of fossil fuels, during which the carbon and hydrogen of the fuels are converted mainly into CO2 and H2O, with the release of chemical energy in the form of heat. As a consequence, this sector is usually the most important sector in greenhouse gas emission inventories, contributing to over 90% of CO2 emissions and 75% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries. The aim of this part of the project was to explore current GHG projection methodology focused on the Energy sector (excluding transport). Emphasis is set on finding the most accurate tool for the predictions and the challenges derived from modelling the Energy System. Predictions of the future development of GHG emissions are also based on implemented and planned PAMs.
