Reduction of trees participating in nutrient return by litter-fall can be very important on the naturally nutrient-poor sites in lowlands, where commercial forests with Scots pine stands are cultivated. The presented paper is focused on the effect of canopy reduction on amount of nutrients returned by litter-fall in young Scots pine stands. The total weight of litter-fall in studied young pine stands at the age of 8 ? 19 years varied from 1 300 to 5 400 kg.ha-1. During the 12-year period of observation,we found that canopy reduction resulted in ca 7 700 kg.ha-1 loss of litter-fall biomass. Consequently, amount of nutrients returned to forest soil by litter-fall was influenced similarly
