Selected methods for leaf area index estimation in communities of deciduous plants: a case study from Central European temperate forest stands
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Since leaf area index (LAI) defined as a half ot the total leaf surface area per unit horizontal ground surface area is according to World Meteorological Organization deemed as one of the essential climate variables, accurate estimations of LAI are crucial for description of plant community structure in fields of agriculture, ecology, and forestry. Furthermore, the LAI enters many biogeochemical and nutrient cycle models as a key input parameter. Three methods involving litter traps, the needle technique, and the LAI-2000 PCA (LI-COR, NE, USA) were used to LAI estimates in a four deciduous temperatr forest stands where three of them were composed of pure European beech and one sycamore maple. Litter traps were deemed as the reference level.
