Silver birch as a tree species for alternative ways of calamity clearings restoration

The paper describes how to verify and optimize the new concept of forest cultivation in areas with rapid large-scale forest dying with efficient use of alternative tree species composition. The aim is to ensure the long-term safety and success of fulfilling the production and non-production functions of the forest, including the reflection of possible climatic changes. For this purpose, the effort to ensure a sufficient amount of high-quality forest reproductive material resources with an emphasis on tree species with a pioneering growth strategy in Czechia is continuing. The high-quality of birch trees are selected for approval as a source of qualified reproductive material. These gene sources should be the basis for future establishment of seed orchard. To determine the clonal identity of selected silver birch gene sources 18 suitable high-resolution polymorphic SSR markers were selected and their PCR were optimized.
