Variability of phytoplankton biomass in a lowland river:response to climatic conditions
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Results are presented of intensive study of phytoplankton carried out in the Berounka River in 2002-2007. Annual and interannual changes of phytoplankton development and their relation to hydrological conditions and concentrations of main nutrients are analysed. Obviously stronger relationship was found of phytoplankton biomass and pattern of its development to variation of flow rates than to existing level of nutrient concentrations. Significantly decreasing relationship of chlorophyll-a to flow ratesand significantly increasing relationship of chlorophyll-a to water temperatures were found, based on monthly mean values for seasonal period 2002-2007. Results indicate remarkable increase of phytoplankton biomass and its prolongated occurrence in watercourses, which can be expected as consequences of predicted climate change described in the respective scenarios for the Czech Republic.
