The only source of pharmaceuticals in Czech rivers are municipal wastewater treatment plants, discharging wastewaters treated to a "standard level". However, actual concentrations of pharmaceuticals in rivers are controlled by very variable actual flow rates and conditions for their possible degradation are controlled by variable water temperature, too. Thus, it is necessary to compare not only concentrations, but also the "transport" values.We have processed monthly data from the monitoring and have calculated the input of pharmaceuticals from big municipal WTTPs to rivers/recipients. We have estimated the downstream transport of pharmaceuticals by rivers (Elbe and Vltava plus Berounka) to the confluence profile Melnik and further by Elbe to the frontier profile Hrensko/Schmilka. Highest transport rates in the Hrensko profile were obtained for Metphormine (5 tons/year) and Gabapentine (2 tons/year).
